Hello beautifuls! Sorry this is a day late. I worked this past Saturday and today being a holiday I got my days confused and really thought today was Sunday until probably an hour ago >> With that being said I hope you all are enjoying the book so far. It’s been so long since I read this that it’s almost like reading it for the first time again. If you have just come across this and would like to join the readalong feel free to do so! Anyone is welcome to join at any time during the readalong. I have a set schedule for discussion posts and what not but feel free to read slower or faster or however you choose. Below are discussion questions for chapters 10-17 so don’t read below if you don’t want spoilers!
What are your reactions to learning that witches killed Diana’s parents and not humans?
I’m honestly a bit appalled and yet at the same time not that shocked. It’s awful to think that their own kind would do such things all because her parents were snooping into something (whatever that may be). But at the same time I’m not that shocked because of how other witches have been treating Diana. She clearly doesn’t want to do anything with magic and yet everyone is convinced that she’s just trying to keep all the power to herself. I would think there would be nice witches in the community (like the yoga instructor) but it seems like all the ones we really see are the ones out for her blood.
How do you feel about Matthew and Diana’s budding relationship? Are you happy with it or concerned?
I love their relationship. I love their witty banter and the way they act around one another. I really like that Harkness is portraying vampires for what they actually are. I like that we see the dangerous side to Matthew and how there are instances where if Diana were to move or say the wrong thing he would hurt or even kill her because of his animal instincts. Needless to say, I ship it 🙂
What do you think will happen if/when Knox tells the witch community about their relationship?
I think all hell will break loose. I won’t be surprised if Diana starts getting more death threats to leave the vampire and join a coven or face the danger of being killed. I think it will be even more of an issue if Knox is actually on that supernatural council (the one with three from each species). I can see their relationship causing a serious uproar.
Who do you think is trying to get into Diana’s rooms and why? Who do you think sent those photos?
I think there are daemons trying to get into her room. I can’t imagine a witch trying to jimmy a lock when they could open it magically (assuming Diana hasn’t put any protective spells on her apartment). My guess is that someone thinks she still has the Ashmole manuscript and hopes to steal it from her.
I also think that Gillian is the one that sent the photos, though I think Knox is the one that pressured her to do so. I believe they are meant to threaten her into giving up her ‘secret’ into how she called upon Ashmole.
What are your thoughts about Marcus and his past?
I find his story very interesting. I think he’s a fun and amusing character and I hope to see more of him. I especially like that he is Matthew’s son and I am really intrigued in how family ties/lines work in this book.
How do you think Matthew’s mother will react to having a witch in her home?
I think it will not be good. I can see her being really angry but not really show it in the typical way to Diana. I see Matthew’s mother as someone who makes someone feel guilty/bad/whatnot via things they say. I can also see her spilling some of Matthew’s secrets in order to get Diana to leave him.
How do you think Diana will respond to learning about Matthews secrets and her DNA results?
I do not see it ending well. I can imagine that she may feel that a lot of people may have tried to hide things from her before so I don’t think Matthew keeping important secrets – especially ones pertaining to her – will go over well with Diana. I can see this being a problem for them in their relationship.
Other thoughts?
I really love this book. I love the writing, the characters, the plots and just everything about it. I get so absorbed into the story that everything else falls away. I can’t wait to keep reading it and to see what the other books have in store for us, readers.
