The Throne of Fire (Kane Chronicles, #2)Author: Rick Riordan
Series: The Kane Chronicles #2
Publisher: Disney Hyperion
Publication Date: May 2011
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Mythology
Pages: 446
Book Description: Ever since the gods of Ancient Egypt were unleashed in the modern world, Carter Kane and his sister Sadie have been in trouble. As descendants of the House of Life, the Kanes have some powers at their command, but the devious gods haven’t given them much time to master their skills at Brooklyn House, which has become a training ground for young magicians.
And now their most threatening enemy yet – the chaos snake Apophis – is rising. If they don’t prevent him from breaking free in a few days’ time, the world will come to an end. In other words, it’s a typical week for the Kane family.

To have any chance of battling the Forces of Chaos, the Kanes must revive the sun god Ra. But that would be a feat more powerful than any magician has ever accomplished.

First they have to search the world for the three sections of the Book of Ra, then they have to learn how to chant its spells. Oh, and did we mention that no one knows where Ra is exactly?

In the second book we are introduced to some new characters. The book opens with Sadie and Carter having found some new initiates to teach the way of the Gods. We’re also introduced to some new gods as well. My favorites were Walt and Bes. I loved seeing these characters and seeing how they interacted with the Sadie and Carter.

This second book was better than the first one for me. Probably because there were now more people, the story line was well on it’s way and I was already used to Sadie and Carter. The action in this story was also more interesting for me. I loved the adventures the Kanes went on and meeting Tawaret was just hilariously wonderful. I love where Riordan has taken the story and I can’t wait to see what happens to the siblings next.

The writing is perfect, as per Riordan’s usual. The story just pops out of the page and you fall in love with all the characters. They’re believable and unique and different. Riordan just makes you laugh and cry and then beg for more and this book was no different. On to book three!

My Rating: ★★★★

W…W…W…Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB at Should be Reading. To play along, just answer the following three questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next?

I recently finished book two of the Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan. I really enjoyed it and I think I even liked it better than the first book. You all the usual characters but there are a few new players that show up. As per usual with Riordan, all the characters were well done and flushed out. I have yet to write a review for this but I will get it done!

I’m currently still reading The Book Thief by Mark Zusak. I put it down to work on finishing the rest of Kane Chronicles because I have to return The Serpent's Shadow (Kane Chronicles, #3)those to the library before I leave for vacation. Speaking of, I’m also reading the last of Kane Chronicles – The Serpent’s Shadow – and plan to have that done by the end of the week.

Up next I have two more library books to read before the due dates: The Chaos of Stars by Kiersten White and Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Tucholke. And since I have promised this to Isis, I will also start A Feast for Crows by Martin right when I finish the Kane Chronicles. I also want to start Witches of East End by Melissa de la Cruz soon.

What are you reading?

So there’s this little used book store, called Novel Endings, in my local library. I hadn’t gone in because I don’t normally have cash on me but this time was an exception. (And by exception I mean, I had a buck in my wallet but I had left my wallet at home and my boyfriend was awesome and bought me the books). So I walk in and find out that they’re closing because higher up people reasons or something. So I immediately peruse everything to see what I want. The left pile are the goods and the right is the Kane Chronicles which I plan to read once I finish The Last Olympian. We also found the rick roll CD and then proceeded to blast the song in the car as we drove away. I have an awesome boyfriend :3
