The Imposter Bride A Cast of Stones (The Staff and the Sword, #1)

Currently Reading: The Imposter Bride by Nancy Richler. I just started late last night but so far I like the writing style and I’m very curious as to where the story is going to . It is an ARC I won and will be published on Jan 29

Recently Read: A Cast of Stones by Patrick W. Carr which comes out in February. It was SO GOOD. I also recently read The Alabama Rebel by R. Thomas Roe which was not so good.

Next Read: The Winter Witch by Paula Brackston. This is another ARC I won and will be coming out Jan 29. So hopefully I can finish my current read and this book in time.

(Book won through LibraryThing Early Reviewer)

When I first picked up this book I was really excited. The cover was enticing and the title was intriguing. Everything about this book interested me and I wanted to know more. But sadly, I was in a reading rut when I first tried reading this book. I just couldn’t get myself to sit and read more than a few pages at a time. I was resolved to force myself to read to get over this slump. I could not have used a better book to get over a reading slump.

This story is action packed within the first few pages. Even though I was having a hard time reading in longer chunks at first I still wanted to know. What could be so special about a 19 year old drunkard from a small town? What could possibly make him so special that someone tried to kill him twice in two days? As I continued to read, the mysteries only grew more complicated. I was getting more questions than answers. This book kept me on my toes as it followed the adventures of Errol Stone – the drunkard – as he travels from his small town village to the capital.

The writing flowed off the paper and I found myself in the forests and towns Errol traveled through. I could smell the sharp tang of copper during the fight scenes. It was well written without being bogged down in heavy descriptions. The only thing I wish this book had was a map of the world. Though since this is an ARC there may be one in the final copy.

The book end with a few questions still not answered. And of course a twist in the plot that makes you screaming because book two won’t be published until July. I will probably be ranting about this book to my friends for the next few months. It’s that good. Go buy a copy or preorder it now. You won’t regret it.

My Rating: ★★★★★

A Cast of Stones, book blog meme, cover crush, Patrick W. Carr

Cover Crush is a new meme hosted by Vyki at On The Shelf where beautiful and eye-catching covers are spotlighted! Any cover can be showcased whether it be old or new, read or still sitting in your TBR stack.

This week’s choice:

A Cast of Stones (The Staff and the Sword, #1)

In the backwater village of Callowford, Errol Stone’s search for a drink is interrupted by a church messenger who has arrived with urgent missives for the hermit priest in the hills. Desperate for coin, Errol volunteers to deliver them – only to find himself hunted by deadly assassins. Forced to flee with the priest and a small band of travelers, Errol soon learns he’s joined a quest that could determine the fate of a kingdom. Amidst mounting dangers, Errol must leave behind his idle life, learn to fight, come to know his God – and discover his destiny.

I really love this cover and it’s the reason I wanted to read the book (along with the title). The colors are enticing and the ball of stones. What are those for? Everything about this title just made me want to pick up the book and find out more.

A Cast of Stones, books, James Paul Blaylock, january reads, Nancy Richler, Patrick W. Carr, R. Thomas Roe, reading, Sighs Too Deep for Words, The Alabama Rebel, The Aylesford Skull, The Imposter Bride, three nerds, William Jack Sibley

So before I came home today I knew of three books that I need to read/have promised to read and review by the end of January. And then I checked my mail and email and I now have 6.

6 books in one month. I am a little overwhelmed at the thought right now and a little sad because I really wanted to finish A Clash of Kings this month which I put down mid November. T_T

C’est la vie. So the books that I have lined up to read this month in no particular order:

  • Sighs Too Deep for Words by William Jack Sibley
  • The Alabama Rebel by R. Thomas Roe
  • The Imposter Bride by Nancy Richler (ARC, to be published in February)
  • A Cast of Stones by Patrick W. Carr (ARC, to be published in February)
  • The Aylesford Skull by James Paul Blaylock (ARC [I think], to be published end of January. And thank you Hecate and Isis for signing me up for this xD)
  • Whatever book the Three Nerds book club decides

So yea… I’m a little anxious about this but as Hecate says, just take it one at a time. I can do this! Maybe >>
