Author: Michael Scott Series: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel - Book 5 Publisher: Delacorte Press Publication Date: 2011 Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult Pages: 376 Buy: The Book Depository
I realize that this is book 5 of a series which only has 6 books, so my review is going to be shorter. I don’t want to give the book description either because there is spoilers in it.
From book one this series has become one of my favorite young adult series. It is also on my recommended list because I love the series so much. What drew me in – aside from the magic – was the use of historical characters. Everyone mentioned or part of the story is known through history or through mythology. Michael Scott manages to bring together amazing action scenes, badass characters, drama and humor all into one so well. You instantly fall in love with characters and read along as the events change them or rock their world. What’s even more amazing is that from the first book to this one, it has only been 7 days. So much can happen in a day.
I highly recommend this book to all ages. Come join Sophie and Josh as their world is turned upside down and the have to fight for the world they know.
The Alchemyst (Book 1) Description:
“He holds the secret that can end the world. The truth: Nicholas Flamel was born in Paris on September 28, 1330. Nearly 700 years later, he is acknowledged as the greatest Alchemyst of his day. It is said that he discovered the secret of eternal life. The records show that he died in 1418. But his tomb is empty. The legend: Nicholas Flamel lives. But only because he has been making the elixir of life for centuries. The secret of eternal life is hidden within the book he protects—the Book of Abraham the Mage. It’s the most powerful book that has ever existed. In the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. That’s exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it. Humankind won’t know what’s happening until it’s too late. And if the prophecy is right, Sophie and Josh Newman are the only ones with the power to save the world as we know it. Sometimes legends are true. And Sophie and Josh Newman are about to find themselves in the middle of the greatest legend of all time, even if they don’t want to be in it.”
